Sheri Givens founded Givens Energy in 2013, as an energy consulting firm focused on utility consumer education, outreach, and protection. Since then, she has expanded the firm's scope to help clients by leveraging her network of federal and state relationships to facilitate client objectives. The firm works with consumer advocate and non-profit organizations, trade associations, government agencies, businesses, and utility companies, bridging the information gaps between energy market participant groups.

Sheri Givens

Sheri Givens began her career in energy policy as an advising attorney at her state utility commission in 2003. Previously, she had worked in various roles in the Texas legislature.
In 2009, she was appointed by the Texas Governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate to lead the Texas Office of Public Utility Counsel, the state’s consumer advocate agency for residential and small business utility consumers. At OPUC, she directed the office’s intervention and participation in both contested and non-contested matters relating to electric and communications utilities before the Public Utility Commission of Texas, state and federal regulatory agencies, and state and district courts. She also testified frequently before the Texas Legislature on consumer, energy, and agency matters and remains a frequent speaker on consumer issues at energy conferences nationwide.
As the state utility consumer advocate, Sheri was known for directing her agency in active consumer education initiatives statewide through in-person outreach, publications, and social media. She has served on numerous boards and councils in the utility arena and has received multiple professional honors throughout her career. Sheri lives near Austin, Texas, U.S.
